Bertel Haarder, Danish Minister of Interior and Health, and Hal Wolf, Senior VP and Chief Operating Officer of Kaiser Permanente, express what they consider the top healthcare priorities in these two countries, and what they can learn from each other. Mr. Wolf wants to bring down cost and see the U.S. healthcare reform transition its focus from funding to care delivery system. Mr. Haarder wants to harmonize regional and municipal access, and make Danish youths drink less. Both strongly emphasize the need to design incentives structure so that practitioners are rewarded for healthy outcomes rather than performing procedures. Prevention, telemedicine and community health are major themes discussed.
